Author, Lorenzo D. Leonard explains, from the time we awake in the morning to the moment we fall asleep at night, a tremendous amount of effort is exerted to satisfy a basic human instinct. The human instinct is to feel credible, relevant, and of value. The traditional pathways to credibility and relevance have been through relationships, work, sex, socio-economic standing, extracurricular activities, religious and political affiliations, as well as any other customs offering external validation. Because life is dominated by external and material value, the traditional means to satisfy this basic human instinct are simply not enough to fulfill the internal need to feel relevant and credible. Satisfying this basic instinct will also require extending a great effort to cripple or destroy the credibility, relevance, and value of another person or group. The competition to climb the ladder of success is quite crowed, and inequities and inequalities are formed favoring one class, race, ethnicity, religion, and gender over another. Though the achievement is distorted, credibility and relevance easily translate into power and influence. The individual or group unable to achieve an equivalent experience will find only one option available to process the disappointment; experience becomes the lone material for developing a self-perception. With this being the only option, self-perception will primarily reflect deflated information. By educating to the merits of character, the individual gains genuine and stable material to develop self-perception and establishes authentic credibility and relevance that does not have to be proven. Traits such as integrity, vulnerability, and transparency come to have real meaning and purpose, rather than mere expression.

I read this book during a very difficult time in my life. I was trapped in an abusive relationship as well as a job that left me unheard and unfulfilled. Within the first 20 pages I felt the I had received the gift of knowledge and understanding of the importance of credibility and it's role in our society. Lorenzo Leonard's deeply intelligent voice gives a detailed perspective of the desire to feel relevant and valued in a world that can try to stifle us. This book gave me the clarity and strength to walk away from my relationship and seek a life where I am truly valued. It gave me the gift to detect when others are quieting my voice and the ability to walk away from those voices.Since reading this book, I have been able to express myself more fully in my personal and professional relationships. Mr. Leonard's book helped me see myself as credible and discover when and why others may not. It gave me the knowledge to cultivate and maintain vulnerability. This book is perfect for anyone struggling with feelings of inadequacy. It will give a much deeper understanding into the themes of credibility, relevance and value and their constant place on our society.

Mr. Leonard presents a most interesting and compelling case to search within and develop our own character. Certainly Leonard's conclusive
Chapter 9 is one of the best written and most persuasive chapters in the book. His use of the Indian proverb about which dog to feed and his quote of Luke Turpeinen on the importance of respect serves to uniquely reinforce Mr. Leonard's argument for personal responsibility and accountability in our society. Empath (should) rule! Congratulations on this seminal work. Richard Royse
